A dam in the Rhonda Vafiey, in Glamorganshire, South Wales, burst causing heavy loss, Water flooded the houoes at Clydacvale. and several collapsed, in one instance killing a mother and infant, who were in bed, and six others, mostly children, were drowned in the roaring torrent. Many narrow escapes were experienced by residents, who were washed out of their houses. Nine hundred children 3n a schoolhousa were saved through the teacher's promptitude, and the playground wall withstanding the flood. The child-en were passed through wiadows to colliers waling in four f jet of water. The flood swept huge bouldera on to the railway, blocking traffic.
