JUBILEE RIFLE MEETING
HALLIDAY, OF KARORI, WINS KING'S PRIZE. FURTHER SUCCESS OF OFAKI. VERY WET WEATHER. By Telegraph—Press Association. TRENTHAM, March 11. The final stage of the Empire Match was fired this morning, in unpleasant weather, and resulted in a victory for the New Zealanders, who scored 2,043 to the Australians' 1,932. The highest scorer was Armourer Sergeant Cutler, of Australia, who put up a total of 268 over all ranges. The United Service Match was concluded, and resulted in a win for the Rifle Clubs by three points, who thus secured the Dawson Shield and £2O.
The Colonial Ammunition Company's Cud went to the Karori Rifle Club B team, who gave a fine exhibition of drill shooting. This cleared the way for the championship, which was opened at 3.15 in unpleasant weather. For a time the match was most exciting, but Halliday, of Karori, forged ahead, and was never quite overtaken by his opponents. The United Service Match, Volunteers v. Rifle Clubs, 200,600, and 800 yds, for the Daw sin Challenge Shield, and £2O, was won by the Rifle Clubs, with an aggregate score of 1,668, the "Volunteers scoring 1,665. Masefield, of Sounds, put up 92 for the Glubs, and Wills, nf Southland, 92 for the Volunteers, these being the highest individual scorers. The handing of prizes to the winnfers, and the usual speech making, toik place in a heavy downpour of rail. DaKin, the commander of the Australian team, expressed thanks for the hospitality received by himself and his team.
