MASTERTON TRUST LANDS TRUST.
SUPREME COURTHOUSE QUESTION DISCUSSED. A FUBLIC MEETNG TO BE CONVENED. The ordinary meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was hi Jd in the office of the Secretary, Mr A. Hathaway, last evening:. There were present Messrs C. E. Darnell chairman, O. Pragnell, W. H. Jackson, E. G. Eton, D. Caselberg, T. Michell, H. C. L. Robinson and T. Wagg. An apology for absence was received from Mr R. Krahagen. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Wellington Harbour Board, asking whether the Trustees would require any more money on account of loan during the period ending September aOth next. It was decided to inform the Board that the Trustees would not require the money until after September 30th, 1910. Correspondence was received from t£e Education Board, conveying the acceptance by the Board of the land and museum building, and stating that the Board were not aole at present to erect a fence, but would do so as soon as they were able. It was decided to request the Board to erect the fence as soon as possible. An application from Mr T. G. Denbee, Secretary of the Church of England Men's Society, to engage the ( Town Hall on Sunday afternoon, April 24th, was granted.
Mr A. McMinn wrote to the Trustees, asking to be relieved of his lease of property. Granted as from 31st March. , The sum of two guineas was voted to the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Society as a donation. The Treasurer's report showtd a credit balance of £496 9a sd. Acounts amounting to £974 7s 4d were passed for payment, including the sum of £897 12s the fifth progress payment to Messrs Coradine and Whittaker, cont actors for the Trust building in Queen street. Premission was granted the Y. M.C.A. to erect a building for gymnasium purposes, on the ground at the rear of the present Y.M.C.A. buildings. where the caretaker's cottage now stands.
Mr D. Caselberg brought up the matter of the erection of the Supreme Courthouse. On being informed that a reply had not been received from the Minister of .Justice in reference to this building, Mr Caselberg said he thought that something definite should be settled before the 31st March, or else the vote or £5,000 may lapse. In his opinion it was advisable to convene a public meeting at once, and form a deputation to wait on the Minister of Justice. Messrs Eton, Jackson, Pragnell and Robinson, spoke at some length in reference to this matter, each agreeing that the deputation was an urgent necessity.
Finally on the motion *of Mr Caselberg, seconded by Mr Eton, it was decided—"That the Mayor be asked to convene an urgent public meeting, inviting the public and especially the members of local bodies, to urge thai ttii IfeeMon of the Supreme CourthoUßS be proceeded with at mice, the object of the meeting being to appoint a strenpr dfeputation from the local bodies to wait on the Minister of Justice with regard to this matter."
