CASTLEPOINT COUNTY.
The adjourned meeting of the Council was held on Saturday last. Present —Councillors Langdon (chairman), R. L. Langdon, Richardson, Lennie, Ryder, Innes and Mason. Correspondence was read from Charitable Aid Board, with refund of £IOO 12s Id, Charitable Aid disbursed by the Council. From Hospital Board, applying for payment of last quarterly contribution to 31st of March. From Marine Department, re expenditure of grant of £250 on the jetty and shed at Castlepoint Landing Reserve.
From Department of Lands, re the expenditure of grants as under. Masterton to Tenui, £IOO, £i for£l; Whakataki to Castlepoint, £2OO. £1 for £1; Pakowai River to Tenui Pakowai Road, £540 available; Whareama to Spring Hill, £l5O, £1 for £1; Castlepoint Landing Reserve, £250 available.—lt was agreed to apply for authority to expand all grants made for roads, etc., in this county. From Mr Taite, re road from Castlepoint to Otahnine. From Mr F. W. Groves, with sketch of land adjoining main road, and suitable for roadman's cottage, which he would sell for £ls per are. —Two Councillors were appointed with the Clerk to examine and complete this purchase if found suitable. From the Secretary District Hospital Board, ie electiun of a member to represent this County at the coming election on the 16th inst., with nomination lorms. —It was agreed to nominate one sitting member, Mr A. J. Speedy. From the Valuation Department, applying to be informed of any sales or leases of properties which has occurred during the current year, and also the probable date when the general rate will be struck for the current year. From Mr Barty, applying or permission to lay a water pipe across the road \n Whakataki, which was granted. The Clerk was directed to inform Mr Taite that the Otahoine property was served by a road which the Council has to maintain and unless Mr Andrew will bear the whole cost of the road applied for this Council must decline to undertake the work. The Council decided to refund the Ranger the costs attending the suit, Steven versus O'Connor, amounting in all to £5 lis, in the matter of impounding cattle. The Road Overseer's report was read and adopted. The Treasurer reported a credit balance in the general account of £319 19a 2d, and loan account of £7OO Accounts were passed for payment amounting to £456 9s 2d. Eight tenders were received for metalling 19 chains of road in the Whakataki Valley, that of Burr and Hunter was accepted at Is 4d per yard.
