TOUR OF AUSTRALIANS. FIRST TEST. WEATHER UNPROMISING. By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 10. For the first Test Match Australia v. New Zealand, to be played here to-morrow, the weather at the time of telegraphing is unpromising and unsettled. About five o'clock this evening a light shower fell, and since then it has been misty, accompanied by a steady drizzle.
CAKLION v. CAKTEKTON. Carlton aad Carterton teams commenced their cup tie at Carterton yesterday. The wi':ket was in tip-top run-getting order, and showed sign? of careful preparataion. Madsen won the toss, and opened with Styles and F. We Ich, the atter soon succumbing to a hot one from Maunsell, the first wicket falling for 3. A. Hoar filled the vacancy, and compiled a very useful 57 before he was run out —a very questionable decision. R. Moss treated the onlookers to a good exhibition of his old form, and very quickly compiled 49 before he was caught behind the wicket by Hart. Moss executed some pretty strokes all round the wickets, included in which were some very big hits clean over both fences and a couple of chains into the next paddock. L. Boyd and Madsen 12 each, were the only other plavers to reach double figures, the innings finally closing for 175. Carterton, batting the tail first, have one wicket down for seven. The scores are:—
