LADIES' SWIMMING CARNIVAL.
A DISTINCT SUCCESS.
The Carnival in connection with the Masterton Ladies' Swimming Club was held at the Christina and Alice Memorial Baths, yesterday afternoon. There was a large attendance of ladies present, and the Carnival was an undoubted success.
Most of the events were well contested, and some exciting finishes were witnessed. Miss Annie O'Leary succeeded in winning several of the prizes, including the 50 Yards Championship after a splendid race. Miss O.Arthur, of Wellington, also won several prizes, but she was not at home in the fresh water, being accustomed to salt water. Afternoon tea was supplied by the Ladies' Committee, and Messrs Inns and Goddard's orchestra played pleasing selections during the afternoon.
Mr Pryor acted as judge, and he was ably assisted by Mr T. Shields, of Wellington, the latter gentleman, during an interval in the proceedings," giving an exhibition of fancy swimming and he also showed some of the strokes favoured by the fast swimmers orNew Zealand.
