MASTERTON STOCK SALES.
Messrs Dalgety and Co. report : At our usual fortnightly sale yesterday we had a very heavy entry of all classes, yarding 12,344 sheep. Buyers were present from all psrts of the district, and at the end of the day we had a satisfactory clearance, 10,744 sheep being disposed of. In our entry we had some very good lines of ewes, wethers, and lambs, and bidding for these was spirited. As is usual at present, included in cur yarding were a fair number of aged and inferior ewes. Priced on the average were slightly in excess of rates lately ruling, more especially in regard to wettieiia, «nd prices for this class of sheep showed a decided advance. Good lambs, fit for rape, were keenly enquired for, and good breeding ewes showing condition and quality found ready buyers. Prices for ewes ranged as follows: —On account of W. C. Buchanan Esq., M.P.. we sold a nice line of 300 Lincoln cross s.m. ewes at 13s; on account Bartou Bros., Mataikona, 150 2, 4 and 6 tooth ewes at 13s 3d. 100 at 12s lOd, and 107 at 12s 8d; on account W. D. Watson Esq., 800 good conditioned 4yr ewes at 12s 6d; on account Nitz Bros., 350 4.yr ewes at lis Bd, 677 at lis 6d; on account Barton tiros., Mataikona 2, 4 and 6 tooth ewes, small, st lis Id; on account W. M. Laing, Esq., Bideford, 700 4 and syr ewea at 9b 6d; on account A. G. Pilmer Esg., Taueru, 300 s.rn. ewes 9s 6d to 9s lOd. We also had two nice lines of purebred Romney ewes on account Wtn. Buick Esq. These ewes showed plenty of breeding, and were in good condition. Sales were as follows: — Sixty-two Romney ewes, at 17s; 45 four-tooth ewes at 14s 9d; aged and inferior ewes sold at from 3s to 7s 6d. Ordinary conditioned ewes with fair mouths were enquired for, and of this class of ewe we effected a fair number of sales at from 8s to 9s Id. Wethers: This class of sheep was in excellent demand., and all lines offered found ready buyers at prices in excess of rates lately ruling. Sales were as follows:—On ac count W. M. Laing, Esq.. Bideford, 350 two and four tooth wethers, at 12s 9d; on account Barton, 100 two-tooth wethers, small, at lis Id. Lambs: These met with a good sale. On account W. M. Laing, Esq., 400 good black face lambs, at 8s; on account Trustees Estate late T. Brown, black face lambs, at 7s; on account Messrs Nitz Bros., 710 shorn wether lambs, good line, 7s 6d; on account Kara Te Huki, 200 spoony lambs, 8s; on account W. Hopkins, Esq.. forward woolly lambs, 9s Id; on account Mrs Wrigley, good woolly lambs, Bs-21; medium lambs sold at from 4s 5d to 6s 6d, arid inferior irom 3s Id to 4s. Cattle: We had a small entry, but all lines offered sold readily at full market rates. On account Barton Bros, we sold two and half year speyed heifers at £3 16s;
three year steers, £5 10s, three year steers, small, £'4 lis. The Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report on the above sale, which was held yesterday as followsWe offered a fair yarding in sheep, rams and cattle, making a total clearance of the whole catalogue. All goad sheep met with a ready market, but the aged and faulty sorts were bought for boiiing down pruposes. Cattle sold fully up to recent rares. Prices:—Fat ewes and wethers, 13s; good sound ewes, lis to 12s 2d; medium, Ss to 9s 6d; boilers, 2s 6d to 4s; rape lambs, 7s 6d; best shorn, 7s; best woolly, 8s 6d; small, 4s to 5s 6d; Down rams, 3to 3£ guineas; Romneys, 2 to 3 guineas; aged sorts, half guinea; boilers, 7r to 9s; 2|yr steers, i 54 to £4 10s; 18 months, 6s; heiferF, 50s; fat and forward cows, 82a fd.
