I A return cricket match between j teams representing Pahiatua and j Mangatainoka was played on the Mangatainoka reserve this afternoon, and resulted in a win for Pahiatua by 66 to 45. Ross Welch did most of the bowling for Pahiatua, taking seven j wickets for twelve runs. Pearcey waß the best bowler tor Mangatainoka. Mr T. R. Fleming, Senior Inspector, under the Wellington Education Board, \isitedthe local District High School, yesterday. Mr Fleming also conferred with the Committee concerning their objection to the new rural course. After hearing Mr Fleming's explanation of the scheme, they expressed satisfaction and the course was approved. During the afternoon Mr A. McDougall, Clerk of Works, was on the ground. The work of erecting the labortaory, woodwork and cookery notns is to be proceeded with at once. Part of the building is to be u.ilissed for this work. Two teams selected from the school Cadets proceed to Greytown tin Friday afternoon to take part in the firing for the Battalion Shield. Dalgety and Company, Limited, report on their Pabiatua sale held jesterday as follows: —We had a fair yarding of sheep but no cattle came j forward. Bidding was lifeless, al-1 though we succeeded in effecting a fair clearance at prices as follow: Lainbs 3s, 3s sd, 4s 4d to 6s 3d; 2, and 4-tooth wethers 9s 9d to 10s, breeding ewes to 10s 4d, cull rams 6s to 10s 6d, 2-tooth Romney rams to 33s 3d. Our next sale will be held in our Mangahao Road yards. MANGATAINOKA NEWS. To-night, in the Pubic Hall, Mr A. Quinlan, who is leaving the district, is to be entertained. The residents are presenting Mi Quinlan with an illuminated address, and Mrs Quinlan is to receive a purse of sovereigns. The Manager of the Hawke's Bay Dairy Company states that the supply of milk at the factory is exceptionally good, considering the lateness of tlie season. The company's output at present is 67 boxes per day, only 13 boxes less than in the height of the season. The management of the North Island Brewery Company at Mangatainoka contemplate making extensive additions to the buildings. It is intended to commence the work at once. *
