TENUI NOTES.
(Own Correspondent.) TENUI, March 7. The annual school concert and distribution of prizes was held on the 4th inst. The gathering was somewhat marred by the unsettled weather but nevertheless a fair number of people were present. The children took their parts of the concert well, the recitation by Gordon Speedy was the best item of the evening. Mr and Mrs Sutton are to ba congratulated for the manner in which the children sang and recited their parts. Mr E. Collerton, the secretary, workel hard to make the gathering the success it was, while the Misses Perry (2) deserves a word of praise for valuable assistance rendered. The Rev. J. Phillips, before distributing the prizes, addressed the chilJren at some length, on the advantages of education, an also the freedom of the British flag. The sswing judges, Mesames .Brooks and Fernie, speak in high parise of the neat work done by the girls, which rejects credit on the teacher, Mrs Sutton. The programme of the evening was: —School songs: 1. "Ls3sons Always," 2. "Merrily Over the Snow." Recitations* The Village Preacher, The village Schoolmaster, The Village Inn, by Lucy Perry, Maud Speedy, Elizabeth Johnston and Pratt Hancock. School songs: "Why Sing the Birds?" and "Love at Home" Recitation : "Who shall be First?" by Flora Perry, Muriel Hancock, Maggie Johnston and Gordon Speedy. The prize list was:— Standard 6. David Henry Speedy, Lucy Perry. Standard s.—Elizabeth Johnston. Standard 4.—Pratt Hancock, Edward Mclsaac. Standard 3. —Rlaph Groves, Nora Tuckett Standard 2.—Celia Grant, Maggie Johnston. Muriel Hancock. Standard 1. —Gordon Speedy, Flora Perry, Adelaide O'Connnor. Primers.—Douglas Gores, Maud O'Connor, Winnnie Grant, Effie Tuckett, Annie O'Connor, Huia Page, Gavin Speedy, Rose Oliver, lan Speedy, Annie Maud O'Connor, Patrick O'Connor.
