MASTERTON RACING CLUB.
The monthly meeting of the Stewards of the Masferton Racing Club was held on Saturday afternoon last. There were present—Messrs C. F. Vallance (Chairman). D. Caselberg, 0. C. Cooper, Jas. Macara, F. Dorset, David Douald, A. G. Pilmer, C. A. Fownall, R. Buick, Ja3. Cress, D. MjLachlan, J. lorns, W. Piatt, W. Cooper. Inspector Ellison notified the stevards that a detective would be sent up for attendance on the course on both days of the Cl'.'b's forthcoming meeting. The Minister of Inten.al Affairs wrote advising thu Club that the increased percentage would have to be enforced on the receipts of the coming meeting. The treasurer's report was read as follow:- -Racing Club account, dr., £256 9s 9d; totalisator account, cr., £94 6s lid. The Secretary of the Racing Conference wrote agreeing to the registration of colours for W, D. Watson and H. Hodge. Mr Jas. Walden, racecourse detective, wrote staging that he would be unable to the present'at the races, as he had to attend the Napier Park Meeting, but would arrange with Detective Maddern to attend. The action of the Secretary in appointing Detective Maddern wss confirmed. The matter of arranging for the sale of the racebooks was left in the hands of the Secretary. The action of the Catering Committee in leaving the catering arrangements of the meeting in the hands of Mr J. Shout was confirmed. Mr C. A. Pownall moved that no
.complimentary luncheon tickets be issued except to the officials, stew- j arris and the totalisator staff. The j privilege was abused by people who i could very well afford to pay, and j consequently the Club suffered. Mr Caselberg said they could not withdraw from the arrangement made with the other clubs in this matter. Mr 0. C. Cooper said he was very glad the matter had been brought up. He understood that the Wairarapa Club were calling a conference to deal with the question. The privileges in this direction were certainly abused, and he would suggest the appointment of a sub-committee of, say, two to look after the tickets. Mr A. C. Pilmer considered that the horse owners and some of the visiting trainers should receive attention. After further discussion Mr Pownall agreed to withdraw his motion in favour of Mr 0. C. Cooper's, viz., that the reglations governing the tickets be strictly enforced, and that a sub-committee consisting of the President (Mr Vallance) and Mr D. Caselberg, be appointed to supervise their distribution. This was seconded by Mr W. Cooper and carried. Mr D. Caselberg considered that the Club should alsc take a firmer stand in regard to the complimentary tickets, which privilege was also abused to some extent. The following officials ware appointed for the coming meeting:— Horses running, Messrs O. C. Cooper, A. G. Pilmer, R. Buickv horses out, Messrs F. Dorset, J. 'Jress, A. J. Welch; horses in, Messrs D. McLachlan and D. Donald; totalisator steward, Mr W. Piatt; outside gates, Messrs A. J. Welrh and J. lorns: inside gates, Mr W. Piatt: notices out, Messrs C. A. Pownall and D. Donald; clerk of scales, Mr W. Cooper; bookmakers stewards, Messrs D. Caselberg and D. Donald.
