WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. MAsTERTON v. CARTERTON. Contrary to expectations, Masterton proved victorious over theCartertou team on the Park Oval on Saturday. Carterton, it will be remembered, established a lead of two runs on the first innings in perhaps the most exciting match here this season, and had two wickets down for 50. With four men absent the total only reached 132, the grand total standine at 378. Hooper and Perry opened for Mastert<w, the former carrying his bat for 68, and practically won the match for his side. With eight wickets down, and the other men absent, Mastertou were 6 runs behind Carterton, Iggulden and Hooper being at the wickets, Hooper scoring the winning hit amidst applause. Carterton ground on Saturday, when S. Matthew's A met Carterton (last year's, champions.) Fairbrother won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket that was decidedly to the bowlers' advantage.The S. Matthew's bowlers were in good form, and disposed of the Carterton contingent for 31 runs, C. Williams 11 being the only batsman to reach double figures. S. Matthew's wickets fell fast, 55 being on the board at the fall of the tenth wicket. Wilkie 16 and Wheeler 9 were the only batsmen to make a stand.
