ATHLETICS.
At the Wanganui Amateur Athletic Clubs'sports on Boxing Day, W. G. Harding, the Napier crack, was credited with running J,oooyds in 2min which was 3sec better thanGuyHaakms' New Zealand record for the distance. Unfortunately, Harding will be unable to claim a record, as a measurement of the rack shows that the actual distance traversed was four feet short of 3,oooyds. The announcement that the Olympic Games, which were expected to take place in Athens next May, have been abandoned was not unexpected. Since receiving a letter last year requestinglhim to act on behalf of Aus tralia and New Zealand, no word has been received by Mr Coombes from the secretary to the Games, nor have entry forms, programmes, etc., / been forwarded. An urgent request for complete information sent last' December has so far not been responded to. The entry of Frank Beaurepaire, of Victoria, has long since been forwarded to Athens, while the Greek committee were informed that there was a possibility of further entries, including those of Andrew Wood and A. R. Sime, the Sydney "Marathon" runners, being forwarded. The Olympian Games of the International Olympic Committee being now recognised as carrying r world's championsVip honours, and | having the pledged support of 22 1 nations, has detracted from the interest in the Greek series of Olympiads, says the "Referee."
