TENNIS.
The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association have decided to use the "Ayres" ball for the next champion; ship meeting. This decision will probably meet with very general ap proval. The opinion seems wbe current amongst players who have been studying the ball question lately that the Slazenger ball, though very fine at the commencement, has a comparatively short life in h;;rd play. Consequently, it becomes more expensive. The South African Lawn Tennis Association, encouraged by the fine showing made by its representatives against the team of English cracks that visited the Cape, proposes to enter thejnternational lists, and will probably nominate H. A. Kidson and U. Winston, of the Transvaal, aa its representatives in challenging Australasia's right to hold the Davis Cup and title of champion nation.
