COMMERCIAL.

STOCK MARKET. Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their Eketahuna stock sale yestarday as follows:—We submitted a fairly heavy yarding of sheep, upwards of three thousand coming forward, including some good conditioned lines of sound mouth breeding ewes and also a few pens of very good lines. The attendance was large and business at auction animated, most of the lines selling under the hammer at prices in excess of owners' anticipations. We have to report a spirited sale at prices on the whole considerably in advance of those ruling the previous week. Four-year-old ewes on behalf of Alpass Estate made 10s lid and 8s 5d for one hundred low conditioned sheep. Mr F. B. Lowes' ewes met with good competition, and sold at 12s Bd, a line of ewes on behalf of same vendor, sound-mouth, but in somewhat low condition, making 8s 6d. Ewes on behalf of Mr Sven Nilsson made 10s 4d, and on behalf of Mr A. H. Wrightson 9s 6d to 10s 2d Mr S. G. Perry, of Feilding, sent through a consignment of good conditioned Lincoln rams of his own breeding, which sold at 1\ to 2|gns. We also offered a very good entry in cattle, which sold readily at prices in favour of vendors, and made practically a complete clearance. Quotations: Three-year-old steers, £5; yearling steers, £2 2s, to £2 10s; eighteen-montbs steers, £3 2s; empty cows, £3 to £3 6s; store cows, 30s' to £2- mixed weaners, 19s to 275; aged bulls, £2. Soundmouth breeding ewes, 8s sd, 8s 6d, 8s 9d, 9s 6d, 10s 4d, 10s lid, ils 2d, and up to 12s Bd, according to quality and condition; two tooth ewes, lis 3d; good woolly lambs, 8a lOd; good shorn lambs up to 7s 6d; small shorn lambs 4s 9d; aged ewes, 3s 9d to 5s 9d; two-tooth Lincoln rams, 2J to 2£gns; aged Lincoln rams, \ to ljgns; S. D. ram, \ to l*gns. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd , report having held their usual weekly sale at Eketahuna on Friday, 4th March. We offered only a fair yarding of sheep and cattle, and have to report a total clearance. All classes of sheep showed an advance in price on last weeks' prices, more especially in good quality breeding ewes, these advancing quite 2s since last sale. We quote:—Woolly lambs, 7s 7d; shorn lambs, 4s sd, 5s 6d. 6s 3d; aged ewes, 7s, 7s 3d to 7s 6d; 2tooth ewes, 13s 3d. Cattle.—Spring ing heifers, £3 15s to £4 6s; empty cows, £3 to £3 61; 5 mo nths heifers, £2. Messrs Abraham and Williams, ! Ltd., report having conducted a large | clearing sale of surplus stock on behalf of Mr Charles Hanis, at Hautotara, Martinborough, on Thursday lust, over 8,000 sheep and 150 cattle being submitted to public auction. A

large and representative attendance ox buyers put in an appearancee, but business under the hammer was dull, the public considering vendor's ideas of value slightly in excess of ruling market rates, most of the lines being passed at auction. However, wiih the exception of the main line of breeding ewes a complete clearance was effected before the stock was turned out. A line of three thousand fat 4 and 6-tooth wethers, heavy weights, made 14s 4d, and were purchased it was understood, by a local buypr operating on behalf of a representative from the South Island. A line of twelve hundred store wethers made 12s 3d, young breeding ewes 13s sd, halfbred ewes 10s, aged ewes 8s 6d, light fat bullocks £7 10s, good forward bullocks £6 l^s.

The New Zealand Loan ana Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report it their weekly stock sale at Eketahuna yesterday:—We had a fair average yarding in both sheep £and cattle, and the tone of the market being better than at last sale we were enabled to make a total clearance at rates in advance of recent markets. Breeding ewes, sjund, to 10s 6d; medium, 6sto'7s6d; Lincoln rams, young, lgn; Shropshires, young, lfgns; aged Downs and Romneys, Jgn; good, 2 and 2i-year steers. £4 Is; ]B-months, good, £2 17s 6d to £3 7s 6d; yearlings, 40s; heifers in calf, 555; store cows, 40s to 455.
