(Own Correspondent.) Thursday. The contractor, Mr H. Goodin, yesterday made a start with the Hinau Gully metalling contract. Improvements are being effected to the offices of the Carterton Trust and Agency Co., in Belvedere Street. The sports gathering at Ahiaruhe thi! afternoon attracted a number of local residents. In order to allow their assistants to attend, the loca shopkeepers closed their premises at noon. Donations to the Hikurangi College Chapel Fund continue to come in slowly, and there is now nearly £IOO in hand, with £2O more promised. The latest donations include: —Mrs Eagle 10s, E. E. Eagle £1 Is; Misses Burton £l, Mrs Saxon £2, Mrs A. Cliff £l, Mrs Duncan £2 2s, Ven. Archdeacon Fancourt £l, Friend lis 6d, J. M. Beechey £1 Is, A. L. Juke 3 £l, Mrs Bartruro £l, Toko Taoumari ss, "Langdale" ss, E. E. E. QuicK £1 Is, J. J. Clark £1 Is, Rev, W. Ronaldson £2 2s. Men carrying swags have been numerous in the district of late, and applications for farm work have been numerous here. Must of the men searching for labour have " just completed jobs. Mr T. R. Roydhouse, who with his wife, daughter, and Miss Lloyd-have been sending a week's holiday with his brother, Mr W. F. Roydnouse, left yesterday for Napier, and from there the party will go to Rotorua. The local senior cricket team to finish the championship match with Masterton, at Masterton, on Saturday, is: -Beechey, Hart, Hawke, Maunsell, Prow, Sievers, Smart, Tunnicliffe, and G. Williams.
