PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Tuesday. The Weber Rifle Club will be represented at Trentham this week by Franklin Bros. (3), R. M'Lesn, S. Palmer and C. Mabbett. Mr D. Crewe, the present Mayor, has, it is understood, definitely decided not to stand this year for the office of Mayor. Three prominent men are meutioned as aspirants for the position, and if these three decide to allow themselves to be nominated, an interesting election may be expected. During Mr Crewe's term of office, he has done much for the welfare of the towr, including the beautifying of the Borough Square opposite the Commercial Hotel. ,Mr Crewe had considerable opposition in connection with this matter. The Square is now a beauty spot cf the town, and with a little care and attention will compare with any town of its size in the Dominion. The sheep sale held at Pahiatua today was the largest that has ever been held in the Pahiatua saleyards. A General Committee meeetine of the Bush District's Society was held on Monday evening, when a summary of the results of the January Show was submitted and considered as very satisfactory. Prize money, etc., amounting to £3OO was passed for payment, and members of the Committee were most enthusiastic that a more progressive and entertaining programme should be arranged as early as possible for next year's events, and from the promises of support that have already been received it is certain that the Association will commence the new year in a better position than it has occupied for many years past.
