NEWCASTLE STRIKE.
A HITCH. GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received February 23, 9.10 p.m.. SYDNEY, February 23. A hitch has occurred in connection with the settlement of the Newcastle strike. When the Wages Board met, Judge Scholes said he was sorry to announce that the matter was not settled. Something had arisen, whether serious or not, in view of bringing the parties together remaine*to b e se ° n : He considered it wise that he should again sfie the proprietors before that the negotiations are off. 1 He would hot say anyI thing more at present, or inakfi disclosures that might do more haJrm than good. A meeting of the prietors has been called for tomorrow, whereat he would try to bring about an understanding. It was one matter oniy which stands in the way of a complete . settlement. At the proper time all the negotiations would have been, and will be made known, especially if they miscarry. The court was crowded. There was great disappointment , at Judge Scholes' announcement of a nonsettlement.
