AMUSEMENTS.
THE POLLARD MERRY MIDGET COMPANY. Unusual interest is being manifested in the coming season of the Merry Midget Company, which opens at the Town Hall, to-night (Monday). The Company, which arrive this morning, will give two performances
in Masterton, changing iheir programme each evening. The first performance will include the great scenis and musical production of 'The Battle of Trafalgar,' also many original and unique scenes, , ballet dances and pongs that will furnish , the weary with plenty of laughter from the beginning to the end of the j performance. The Company bring .all their own scenery and stage accessories, including electric appliances, in order to remove some misappreI hension that'seems to have arisen re | the personnel of the Pollard MerryMidget Com nany, it may be stated that the" Company is owned and directed bv Mr Chaa. A. Pollard, who has directed the Pollard Liliputian Opera Company for the past twenty odd years. His companies have regularly visited America, Canada and South Africa, also India ."and the East. The Company ia composed of genuine juvenile performers, all picked artists, and thoroughly trained under Mr Chas. A. Pollard's supervision. They are on a flying trip to v the Dominion after a highly successful tour of Australia, and then proceed to America, under the direction of the Frobmann Syndicate.
AN DREW BLACK CON 3ERT. This talented company of concert artists who appear in Masterton on Saturday riight next, consists of.,some remarkably cleyer muai-al artists. Andrew Black, the principal of the combination, is already a popular favourite with Masterton audiences, having appeared here a couple of times, and his glorious baritone voice and ringing interpretation of oratorio, opera, and ballad singing, is atreat to listen to. Of the supporting artists, the chief interest will be centred in the appearance of Herr Anton Tschaikov, the specially engaged Russian violinist, who is reputed to be a most famous artist. The contralto of the Company. Miss Iley Cross, possesses a voice of great range and culture, whilst Miss Lilian Delaney is a most capable pianiste. The programme is most artistic and comprehensive, and we have no doubt but that a select Company such as the Andrew Black Concart Company will draw a good house. The box plan is at Miss Rive's. ■-■-... -
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES. The undoubted popularity of the Thompson-Payne Pictures, was again demonstrated by the lars?e audience that attended on Saturday night. The fine programme presented was received with marked enthusiasm, and no doubt the subjects .submitted fully merited the applausa which greeted them. , To-night the usual change of pictures will be produced, and they are highly spoken of. Among the scenic subjects in tonight's programme will be " A Trip Through Norway," which should be very interesting. The star dramatics, will be "A Sister's Devotion," "A Strange Meeting,'" and-"The uowboy's Sweetheart," the last-named being exceptionally good. Among the laughter raisers to be shown will be "The Haunted Hat," "Never Late," and "A Week's Absence." These subjects will be supported by a high-class collection of films.
