CARTERTON NEWS.
(Own Correspondent.) Saturday. Mr C. Whyte, secretary of the Carterton Fire Brigade, left here this morning for Hastings, where he will represent the Brigade at the United Fire Brigades' Association Conferencp.
About thirty members of the local Rifle Volunteers intend travelling to the Kitchener Camp at Jonnsonville. Bro. G. Bowles, delegate from Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge, to the Oddfellows' District meeting at Petone on Monday, left here this afternoon,
At a meeting of the United Friend • ly Societies' Council, last evening, Bro. J. M. Nicholls presiding, the invitation from the Masterton Council to a social evening on Monday, February 28th, was accepted. It was decided'to offer the Foresters' Lodge a small rental per annum for the use of the hall. It was decided to write for a copy of the balance sheet of the recent combined picnic. Miss Minnie White, who has been associated with the teaching staff of the Clareville School for some five years', and lately appointed a relievng teacher, was last evening the recipient of a dainty eold watch from the parents and committee, and a leather bag and and bony hand mirror, comb and hair brush from the children.
