Heavy gales have occurred in Britain and Ireland. The wind was over seventy miles an hour in some placss. Much damage was done at Pre3ton and Birmingham. Torrential rains fell at Carlisle. A train in Ireland was blown over an embankment twelve feet high. The couplings held. Some of the waggons were suspended in the air, and the passengers had miracuolus escapes.
