Mr Lionel Phillips, one of the initiators and chief workers in the Union, though he has held aloof from controversal politics for the past four years, has joined the Progressives, hoping for a strong and gound Opposition, even if General Botha and Dr. Jameson are unable to join forces for South Africa's good.
