PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Wednesday. The largest individual supply to the Hamua creamery is 2,0001b5, delivered by Messrs Smith Bros. The highest te3t at this creamery is 4.2, and the lowest 3.6. To-morrcw (Thursday) evening the iocal Lodge of Druids will entertain Myrtle Lodge from Eketahuna. The occasion is also the night of the quarterly summoned meeting, and a large muster of members is anticipated at the meeting, which will be held first, and at the social afterwards which will be held in the Drill Hall. It will be pleasin? to the suppliers of the various creameries, delivering cream to the Konini (Ballan n ,e No. 2) Butter Factory, to know that this factory's butter was awarded first prize at the Masterton A. and P. Association's Show for butter for export, and, also, butter for local consumption. It is understood that the number of points obtained by the various brands of butter competing, were not available for the press, and this being the casa one cannot tell how the other factories competing stood in comparison with Konini. The manager (Mr D. Kell)y and the butter maker (Mr G. Stone) consider the pasteurisers recently installed a splendid help to the making of a good article. The splendid grade that has been obtained for 'ate shipments and the prizes obtained to-day against good opposition, fully prove that the installing of the pasteurisers, as a trial, have beien eminently successful. The Chairman of the Ballance Company stated the other day that if the experiment at the Konini factory proved beneficial, pasteurisers would be installed at the Company's butter factory at Bailance.

Mr W. Mitchell, of Pahiatua, was one of the judges in the farmers' classs at the Masterton Show. The late Mrs E. M. Egan, whose funeral takes place to-morrow (Thursday) was one of the earliest settlers of the Mangahao Valley in that part, which has of late years been known as Marima. When the Egan family first settled in this district, many miles of very rough and muddy track had to be traversed, before they could reach the town, and the carrying of stores, etc., had to be done with pack horses, and was a very expensive ar.d monotonous contract. Several grown-up sons and daughters are left to mourn their loss.

At a meeting of the Ballance School Committee it was decided to hold the annual school picnic on the 22nd.

The Misss J. Stewart, A. Howard and N. Matthews, of this district, were amongst the lady riders taking part at the Masterton Show, yesterday and to-day. A cricket match between Pahiatua

and will probably be played on Saturday next. The Konini School treat will take place on Friday next. A cricket match between Pongaroa and Rakaunui will take place on the former's ground on Saturday next. Last Saturday Pongaroa suffered their first defeat this year, Waione defeating them by two wickets. The game on Saturday next is expected to be an interesting one.

KAITAWA NOTES. The newly formed Kaitawa Rifle Club fired their first trophy match on Saturday last. As a large number of the members had not handled a rifle before, the shooting was not of a very high order. However, it is expected that with a little practice they will show a marked improvement. The match resulted as follows:

The Kaitawa Rifle Club haye decided upon Wednesday a» the shooting day for the clubj aS this day will suit those wishing to attend the 'shoots" from other parts.

The competition for the President's trophy (Mr A. Knox's) will commence on Wednesday, the 23rd inst. Three matches will be fired, the highest scores in two to count, but the winner of each "shoot" will receive a trophy.
