AMUSEMENTS.

THOMP3ON-PAYNE PICTURES.

The new programme presented at the Foresters' Hall last night proved to be a real surprise packet. Such a fine collection of films has not been presented in one programme in Masterton before. The new series opens with a fine Algerian study entitled "The Great Kalylia." In this picture a fine idea is conveyed of that well-known French possession. "In Uld Kentucky" is a first-class film representing an incident in the American Civil War. Here we are shown how awful the struggle must have been, brother against brother, and father against son, the poor mother having a hard time to decide as to which side she should take. This fine picture is followed by a comic sunject "The Wrong Hat, which shows what a man s carelessness may bring him to. "Julius Caesar," that famous Roman Emperor, is depicted in his triumphant career, and we view his iife until his tragic death at the hands of Bru ■ tus. These fine pictures are supported by "Zambesi," "A Bunch of Lilac," "A Suffragette's Dream," and several other films of exceptional merit. Another change will appear on Thursday.
