LAWN TENNIS.
The second round of the Country Cup competition was played on Saturday afternoon,, when teams from the Masterton and Pahiatua Clubs met at Pahiatua. The annual match between these two clubs was also played. Ideal tennis weather prevailed, and the courts being;in excellent order, some good games resulted. The following are the results (Masterton players ..being mentioned first in each instance* — C. C. Cox beat J. G. Swainson, 6—3, 6—o. G. G. Aitken beat 0. H. Druce, 6-1, 6-1. S. R. Gawith beat R. Ulrich, 6-4, 6—4. A. R. Sclanders beat W. E. Collins, 6—4, 5—6. 6—l. Miss M. H. Payton lost to Miss R. Hughes. B—9. Miss Carley lost to Mis=i L. K. Hughes, 4—9. Cox and Gawith lost to Swainson and Druce, 3-6, 6—2. 4- 6. Aitken and Sclanders beat Ulrich and Collins, 6—3, 6—5. Misses Payton and Carley lost to the Misses Hughes, 3—9. G. Mawley beat W. J. Collins, 6-0, 6—4. F. H. Elcopte beat S. Reeve, 6—4, 6—5. N. H. James beat J. Osborne
Lilly, 6—2, 6—5. J. G. Bee beat W. Eccleton, 6—2, 6—l. Mawley and Elcoate lost to Collins and Reeve, 3 —6, 6—5, 4 —6, James and Bee beat Osborne-Lilly and Eccleton, 6—3, 6—3. Result Country Cup Match: Masterton won by five matches to four. Club Match: Masterton won by ten matches to five. The third round of the Country Cup competition will probably be played un Saturday next, when Masterton meet Carterton on the local courts. The winning team then meets the winning team in the Manawatu, Kangitikei and Wanganui districts in the final round.
