THE ST. JOHN AMBULANCE DISTRICT NURSE FUND BAZAAR.
The committee of the St. John? Ambulance District Nurse Fund Bazaar are using every endeavour to> make their appeal to the charitably disposed on behalf of this worthy object to raise funds for nursing the sick poor in their own homes, of an 1 attractive, educational and entertaining nature. Towards this object tbey have been most generously assisted* by every section of the community. The literary and musical competitions are the largest competitionsever attempted in Masterton, and as the number of competitors promises* to oe very large it has- been decideto asK the Trust Lands Trust ioifc subsidy towards the prizes to be : awarded. it has been pointed out that the initial objects of the Trust are to assist educational movements in the district as well as for purposes of pubilc utility, and under both these heads the committee are confidently expecting to receive favourable consideration from theTrustees. The entrance fee for school children in all the competitions, musical, literary and cooking,, is free. In fact, in the cooking competitions all entries are free. Exhibits J for the cooking competitions must be at the Drill Hall by 2 o'clock on Monday afternoon next, so that they may be judged before the opening of the bazaar, which takes place at V!3O o'clock on Monday next. Since the programme was printed it has been decided to add another class, viz., "sponge sandwich, •' to those already published. The full list now is asfollows:—l. Rich fruit cake. 2. Plain fruit cake. 3. Ginger cake. 4. Seedcake. 5. Scones. 6. Sponge flat cake , (Madeira). 7. Pikelets. 8. bhortbread. 9, Sponge sandwich. The entries for the flower competitions, viz.,-1. Decorated basket. 2. Decorated fan. 3. Lady's spray 4. Button-hole. 5. Plural fdpsign (special prize presented by Mrs B. Arnot), will close at the Drill Shed 011 Ihursday, next, the 17th inst., at neon. Sympathisers ran ally assist the movement by in entries. All exhibits will for the bazaar, but there must Ee three entries in each > lass or do prize. Branson; Exchange Buildings, or Messrs Inns and Goddarj; flower stall competitions, Mrs Cairns; cake stall competitions, Mrs blackman, MrsUaysh or Miss Harper, or from the secretf ry % Mr W ' U»lespie, Academy Buildings, Church street. In the Town Hall on Mondav commencing at 8 o'clock, the Y.M.CA. Physical Culture Class," under the instructorahip of Mr R. 0. Jarrett. will give a grand gymnastic and comic boxing, Black v. White. ; Altogether patfons can depend unon a most enjoyable time.
