POLITICAL SITUATION

DISCUSSED BY LIBERAL JOURNALS. United Press Association—By Electrio Telsgrapq Copyright, Received Februaiy 5, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, February 4. Discussing the political situation, the "Manchester Guardian," "Daily News," "Nottingham Express," and "Yorkshire Observer" demand that the Government should deal with the Lords belore re-introducing the Budget. "The London Daily Chronicle" dissstits from this view. SHARP DIFFE.c. NCES. WHERE DANGER LiES. IKISH PARTY DISSATISFIED. Received February 6, 5 p.m. J LONDON, February 5. The newspapers r ; 'v aal sharp differences aooong the Liberals concerning the tactics regarding the Lords. "The Chronicle,"' in a two column leader, urges the Liberals not to follow sectional divisions of personal rivalries. It shows that Mr Asquith, on n ecember 2nd, stated that the first act of the new Government would be to impose the Budget. The "Chronicle" adds: "No other legislation, exept insurance against unemployment, should be attempted until the Lords power of veto is abolished. The creation of hundreds of hereditary Peers is distasteful to Democrats. The strategic danger is that if the Liberals submitted to a scheme which is capable of being represented as a virtual abolition of the Lords, Mr Balfour would tfeen submit a scheme for a reformed Chamber. The choice of the electors would ba. doubtful at the present time. If Mr Asquith contemplated such a heroic step he should have gone to the King directly the result of the election was known, nevertheless the time has arrived for a real change in the Second Chamber. Ihe basis of deliberation exists in Lord Rosebery's report. ' ,

The 'Labour Leader,' a new paper, says that the Labour members are opposed to the reform of the Lords, and demand its abolition.

Mr O'Brien says that the Nationalists require the Irish part of the Budget to be reconstructed from top to bottom.
