MASTERTON A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

SPLENDID ENTRIES FOR THE | SHOW. I I A DOMINION RECORD IN FAT CATTLE. Details of the entries for the forthcoming show of the Masterton,A. and P. Association are now to hand. The figures are of a highly satisfactory nature, and everything autrurs well for the success of the show. There i s a fairly big falling off in sheep, this being partly due to Mr E. Short, of ' Feilding, who is always a large exhibitor, not showing this year, owing to his preparing 'sheep for the Argentine Show. Last year there were special farmers' sheep classes, in which exhibitors competed for Messrs Thomas and Cook's cup The condition of the cup brought these classes into existence, and as the trophy was won outright last year, they are no longer 011 the catalogue, and consequently accounts to a large extent for tlie decrease in the sheep section. The quality of the sheep to ; be shown will be far ahead of anything previously seen in Masterton. Fat cattle will be a feature of the show, as there will be no less than ]2O pens, this being a record for the Dominion. The competition in Shorthorn, Dairy and Hereford cattle classes should be particularly keen, as some of the best known breeders are sending their stock to the show. Holsteins and Ayrshires on the other hand are neglected, the entries being but few. The increase in horses is of a satisfactory nature, the purebred classes being exceedingly well filled. The pony and hack classes are 1 strong, both from point of quality ' and numbers, eleven stone back class 1 having brought forth no less than thirty entries, and the ladies hack 22. A new competition (ladies and gentleman's hack to be judged as a pair) has brought forth generous support, no less than 16 entries having been received. The jumping competitions are conspicuous for the quality of the horses entered, and patrons of •the show will have the opportunity of seeing the pick of the jumping horses in the North Island, competing

for the various prizes. The details are as follow lalO: Horses 320, cattle 250, sheep 585, pigs 45, dogs 60, competitions 165, produce 180, horticulture 102; total, 1707.

The figures for last year were: Horses 301, cattle 220, sheep 784, pigs 22, dogs 53, competitions 157, produce 188, horticulture 176: total, 1901.
