The Brighton and London express, while running at forty miles an hour, broke a coupling at Stoats Nest station, near Qroydoo, a few miles from London. The rear portion of the train ran some distance before it left the metals, and then a carriage was flung across the platform and overturned. Seven presons were killed, including a man standing on the platform, and twenty others were injured
