i (From Our Resident Reporter). Friday. A Garden Fete in connection with St. Peter's Church will be held in the Vicarage Grounds on Wednesday next. Mr A. McFarlane, Chairman of the NationaljDairy Association, and who has been to Wellington on business connected with the Association, returned to Pahiatua to-day. A cricket match between Pahiatua. and Mangatainoka will be played on the latter's ground on Wednesday next. The local team will be selected from the following players:—A. and R. Welch, R. and G. Griffith, G. H. McLeod, T. Walsh, J. K. Carpenter,, H. Pittendreigh, Rev. Speer, Hobbs, T. Wilson, S. Tipping, Hawkins, Cosford and Midigan. A start was made this morning with the drainage work that is to be carried out, on ths Recreation Ground. Several drains are being cut, in various directions, which will be afterwards covered in. It is expected that the work will be completed in about three weeks' time, and Jthis will be joyful news to local footballers, who, last year, oftentimes played in mud inches deep on this ground. The work is the outcome of a suggestion made some time back by Councillor T. Hewat. Tennis players will have a little diversion to-morrow afternoon, in tne, shapejof a cricket match" on the Re-! creation Ground between the "Town"! and "Country" members. Greathead, the Manager, a former resident of the Wairarapa, was giving the Company-every satisfaction, and all the cheese mauufactured so far this season had secured first tirade. The first competition for the Puketoi'Rifle Club's Association Shield took jalace'recently, resulting in a win for the Weber R.C., with a total of 455, Other rifle clubs competing

ASSOCIATION. f The entries received for the first Show of the Pahiatua-Akitio Association, to be held on February 9th, on the Pahiatua Racecourse, have exceeded the anticipations of the committee. In the horse events (competitions included) the large number of 303 have been received, and these sections alone would make a good Show without anything else. The Steeplechase Leaping Competition, the first prize of which is £ls, has attracted 17 entries, and 24 will participate in the pony race. The cattle classes total 7L\ and sheep, of which there are only a limited number of classes, 49. A considerable number of entries have already been received for the horticultural section, which is being held in the Drill Hall on Tuesday and Wednes- , day, February Bth and 9th.
