A COUNTRY GIRL.
To-morrow evening Mr J. C Williamson's will give Masterton playgoers an opportunity of seeing his latest musical organisation the new Comic Opera Company, comprising one hundred members. When in London some six months ago, Mr Williamson cast around for, the very best people available for comic opera engagement in Australia. As a result he sent out Mr Herbert Clayton, Miss Dorothy Court and Miss Lottie Sargent. Mr Clayton, one of. the finest opera baritones in existence, upon his appearance in Melbourne made an instantaneous impression. Miss Dorothy Court hails from the Savoy Theatre, London, where until she was engaged for the Australasian tour she held pride of place as light opera prima donna. In Miss Lottie Sargent the company has 'the most vivacious of singing andi danc;ng comediennes. Miss Sargent is one of the most valued of Mr George Edward's staff of the Gaiety Theatre. London. Added to these names is Miss Olive Godwin, the brilliant Australian soprano, and Mr W. S. Percy, the very popular comedian, dnd the excellence of the personnel of the Company is transparent. Other ladies and gentlemen weli-known in theatrical circles are:—Messrs Pat Bathurst, Roland Hogue, Arthur sant, Victor Prince and Frank Stirling, and Misses Ada Stirling, Ivy Scott, Ivy Freshman, and Alice Mitchell, should materially serve to strengthen a decidedly powerful combination. The box plans are now open at Miss Rive's.
