ATHLETICS.
John D. Marsh, the old English distance ped., and Henry St. Yves, I the famous French "Marathon" run- > ner, met in a 15 miles' match at the Horse Show arena, Vancouver, 8.C., on the night of November 19th. St. Yves had to retire in the tenth mile owing to a badly strained leg. Matsh was in the lead when the Frenchman had to turn it up A. E M. Rowands, the New Zealand walker, with 20sec start (practically on the scratch mark with H. V. L. Ross, the London to Brighton record holder) secured third pl&ce in the Tooting A.C. Walking Handicap of six miles, on November 16th, in 41min sF!sec. The well-known Wellington (New Zealand) distance runner, J H. Prenderville, ia now on a visit to Sydney,. ■
