SENSATIONAL ARRESTS.
By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, January 21. A sensational arrest was affected to-day by Detective Cassels and Constable Pearce. For some time the police have been receiving complaints of burglaries in the city and suburbs. On Wednesday Detective Cassells, who is in charge of the investigation, and Constable Pearce, of Brooklyn, went to Makara Hills, where m a dilapidated uninhabited whare they found a swag contain ing rruch stolen goods.They remained all night waiting the occupants, but were disappointed. They spoke to some residents, from whom they had had information with 'he result that this morning thej had a telephone message that two men wero acting in a suspicious manner near the hut. They hurried out. hut the men were not about. They were told that they had been sitting under the brow of a bill watching wood splitters at work, ihey found them there, and crept up behind them, and tv.d the "braoelpts" on them before the m. n knew whnt hn<) happened to them. The detfctiv" and constable then found each of them armed with a five-chambered revolver fully loaded. They are both youths. ( and are named Maurice Edward Pointon and Etward Haughey. al/ias Kelly. About fourteen charges of burglary alleged to have been committed between January 2nd and 17th will be brought against them.
