THE TRAINING OF OFFICERS.
Now that the Government has decided apon a system of national military training, it is essential that as soon as possible adequate provision shall be made for the education of officers in the theory and practice of war. The Senate of the New Zealand University will shortly consider some interesting proposals bearing upon the subject, made by a Military Committee set up at Victoria College. This committee, whose scheme is suported by the Professorial Boards at Christchurch and Auckland, purposes that military science be an optional subject for the arts course, and thai a chair of military science be established at each of the four university centres; the syllabus to include military history, strategy, tactics, military geography, military engineering, administration, organisation, and military law. The committee estimates that £3,000 will cover the salaries of the lecturers.
