PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Monday. Mr F. Morris, who recently d.sposed of his store and bakery business at Hukanui, has purchased a farm at Oakuru, near New Plymouth. It is stated that Mr Sydney Johnston intends to cut up part of his estate in Hawke's Bay, the portion to be subdivided beina: near the far end of Hatuma. , A meeting of the finance committee of the Pahiatua-Akitio A. and P. Association was held on Saturday evening. It was decided to advertise the show at once. Intending competitors at the show, which takes place on Wednesday, February 9th, should note that the entries close with the secretary, Mr J. A. Walsh, on Saturday next, 22nd inst., at 8 p.m. It seems rather unfortunate that both this show and the Levin show should clash as regards dates. Mr,and Mrs J. C. Cooper arrived home by the mail train this afternoon, and their little boy, who is now doing splendidly since the serious operations he underwent, will arrive jn Pahiatua a week hence, Pahiatua people seem to be in a fog regarding the line their gooJs are carried on from Wellington to here since the alteration of the timetable, but I am informed on good authority that goods railed from Wellington to Pahiatua come via the Wairarapa Jine, but that owing to the Rimutaka incline, goods railed from Pahiatua to Wellington go via the Manawatu line. Which ever way they come or go there seems to be a delay from the time the goods leave Wellington until they reach their destination, as a local shopkeeper stated to-day that from the time he received the invoice until the arrival of a ton of potatoes eight days elapsed. I find I have to carry fully £SOO worth of stock more than I did before the new timetable came into operation, as I am never certain when the goods will arrive, said my informant. in anticipation of the tennis tournament in Dannevirke on Friday and Saturday next the local tennis players put in some good practise on Saturday afternoon at the ('inclusion of which Mrs H. M. B. Marshall dispensed afternoon tea. MLs Ray Hughes will compete at the Masterton tournament on Saturday next, while the following players will journey to the Dannevirke Courts: —Misses Hughes (3), Bolton 2, Hindmarsh and Messrs 0. H. Druce, Collins (2), Bolton, Ulrich and J. G. Swainson. The last-named will compete in the championship events, while all the players will compete in the handicap events. Plans of a drainaee scheme have been submitted by Mr Metcalfe for the Woodville Borough, and a special meeting of the Works Committee of the Woodville Borough Council has been called to meet Mr Metcalfe and discuss the details. The waterworks

extension to Baker Town has been srart-d. are reminded that the st-.ck sale on Tuesday week, 25th i.n.-t., v, ill cnrmence at 11.30 a.m '
