PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter)

Friday. To-morrow (Saturday) the Manga- j ramarama Co-operative Cheese Com- , pany, will pay out to its suppliers l the sum of £750 for December's , milk supply. j It is pleasing to note that Mr D. ; O'Rourke, the popular Clerk of the Court, has sufficiently recovered from , his recent illness, to be able to again take up his duties. During his abseice from the Court, Mr Morris attended to the duties of Clerk. At the conluding day of the Pahiatia races, yesterday, two locallyowned horses Pukewai and Miss Sylvia, belonging to Messrs R. Smith j and A. Manguson, respectively, sue- j ceeded in passing the judges' box j jfrst, and the owners were heartily congraiuhted by those on the lawn. 1 understand from good authority that Mr W. Howard Booth will be a large exhibitor at the forthcoming A. ; and P. show. | Owing to the trains fmm both South and North arriving in Pahiatua j teter than on former race days, srortsmen were not able to enjoy a g >od luncheon in town prior to uoing to the races on 'Wednesday and Thursday last, finding they had only time to reach the course in time to sse the first race run. Consequently restaurants and refreshment rooms suffered to a certain extent, which is a great pity, as the race meetings generally give these places a helping hand. To-day the town has gone back again to its everyday busi- j ness. the last of the sporting fraternity leaving by the mail train. The milk supply at the Ballance Company's Creamery at Scarborough j is now a little over 15,800 gallons I daily, having decreased since the tjrn of the season from over 2,000 gallons. Of 44 suppliers Mr D. O'Brien still tops the list, his card this morning reading 1,3351b5, Mr W. Gilbert running second with 1,2911b5. The tests are very satisfactory, the highest being 4.1 and the lowest 3.4, averaging over 3 6. The rains of Wednesday last freshened up the grass, and the supply will probably remain at the above figures for some time yet. At the Kumeroa-Hopela.ids sports on Wednesday next the following local athletes will compete:—E. Harvey, 3 yards handicap, in 100 yards, scr in 220 yards, scr in 440 yards, 38 I in 880 yards, and owes 10 yards in ; the 120 yards hurdles; T. Wilson, j yards in 100 yards, 15 in 220 yards, 20 in 440 yards; B. Harvey, 9 in 100 yards. 16 in 220 yards: H. Cowan, 9 in 100 yards, 17 in 220 yards; R. Yule, owes 13 yards in 120 yards hurdles; H. Terry, 55 yards in 880 yards, 100 in the mile handicap; W. Pilkington 60 in 880 yards; 140 in tbe mile handicap, and R. M. Barrell 65 yards in the 880 yards handicap. This is the first year that the above clubs have held sports conjointly.
