McGregor, a well-known'settler, having his back completely broken by the capsizing of a waggon loaded with wood. Medical assistance was obtained at Palmerston North, but death oc-' curred about ten hours after the accident. The adjourned inquest in connection with the death of the hurdle rider, F. Whitehouse, at Bulls, as the result of an accident on the second day of the Rangitikei races, was resumed to-day. A verdict of accidental death was returned, with a rider that racing clubs should do all in their power to keep the public away from hurdles as it was a practicejlikely to divert the attenion of the horse. The evidence was to the effect that Arcadia (the deceased's mount) was close up with the rear of the field, and apparently did not see the jump. j
