THE FIRE AT THE PALACE.
SAILORS' SUMMARY METHODS.
IRRITATION CAUSED. United Press association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received January 11, 8.15 a.m. ATHENS, January 10. When four hundred sailors landed to extinguish the fire in King George's palace at Athens on the Greek Christmas Eve, they were accompanied by a hundred armed marines and a flag. The force pushed through the Greek | troops, took a front position, and mounted guard over the art treasures rescued from the building. An armed escort also accompanied the Russian sai[ors. The Greek officers protested against being summarily supplanted, and the Athens papers are angry. The Premier explains that the escort was in accordance with the usual practice, but the subject is causing irritation. AMOUNT OF DAMAGE. Received January 11, 8.4K a.m. ATHENS, Jaunary 10. The amount of damage to the Royal palace at Athens through the fire is a hundred thousand pounds sterling.
