CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Thursday. Soms fine oat crops are to be seen in the stook at Belvedere. The Rev. Father Cahill, who has been on a visit to a number of his former parishioners in this district, returned to Dannevirke this morning.
The ordinary meeting of Loyal Heait of Oak Lodge was held last evening, Bro. R» Butler, , N.G., presiding. The G.M., Bro. C. De Lacey, duly"installed P.G... Bros. J Fensham and C. Lamb into the offices of N.G. and V. G. for the ensuing term. It was resolved to place the retiring G.M.'s name on the Merit Foard. Several brethren were declared on and off the sick fund, j Receipts for the meeting were £9 12s 3d and disbursements £26 15s. At the Northern Bowling tournament, which commences in Wellington on Monday, the local team plays its first game on rink 12, and meets the team skippered by Mack (Victoria), section G. In the second round on the same day, Carterton meets Wellington on rink 1, and in the third round Turanganui on rink. 7 Among the estates certified to for stamp duty in December, was that of Thomas 0. Harp, late of Carterton, j which is set down at £1,971. j A commencement was made this morning with the formation of Seddon Street. The work has been sadly needed for some considerable time. The work of repainting the old school building at the southern end of the town is now in progress. Mr C. J. Beard, of Greytown, is the contractor.
