CARTER THE MAGICIAN.
Carter the Magician will commence ;i season at the lown Hall on Friday, January 14th. Mr Carter h'aa a varied programme which is divided into three parts, tha first of which is devoted to a group of clever tricks, entitled sleight of hard, an inexhaustible bottle, and an astral hand. One of the most perplexing of the illusions in this part is the "magical divorce," in which a human being is made to instantly vanish. In "Levitation," which is said tD be the crowning effort of this part, a young woman in a semi-comatose condition quietly floats in the air, and while resting over the footlights a hoop ot steel is passed completely over and around her recumbent foruj. In part two the cabinet of the |Yogi is introduced, and in part three Mr Carter comes on dressed as a Chinese magician, and among other tricks produces a huge bowl of water which, with its contents, is said to weigh 9st,
