Mr Woodford, Commissioner of the Solomon Islands, recently proceeded to the island of Baggabagga to enquire into the massacre of Captain Brinskin's family by the chief Sito's gang in October last. A. force of two hundred native police under white officers landed and scoured the island without' success. Difficulty was experienced in securing the co-operation of the local coastal natives. The commissioner announced his intention to remove all neutral natives "to another island unless they co-operated. Several natives who were believed to be in communication with Sito were detainee. Finally others ilecided to htlp the Government. The island was thoroughly searched for three weeks, resulting in the capture of Tonava, the actual murderer of Mrs Brinskin and her younger child, and the • death of three others of Tongava's family. In addition, sixteen prisoners were taken, and several of Sito's party were killed while resisting capture. Sito is reported to have been captured in a neighbouring island.
