CAPE CECIL FIRE.
By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, # January 5. At the instance of the police, Mr Bishop, S.M., held an inquiry in connection with the fire in the Cafe Cecil buildings, High street, in which a deliberate attempt to fire the block was discovred in time to prevent a serious conflagration. The coroner stated that the detective staff had strong reason to believe that incendiarism had been committed, and the closest searching inquiry was desirable. The act was not only incendiarism, but barefaced and unaccountable. He called preliminary evidence to show the necessity for an inquiry, after which the jury visited the scene and the i.iquiry was adjourned to January 18th.
