ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
YOUNG MAN FOUND DEaD.
By Telegraph—Press Association. ASHBURTON, January 4. On Monday morning a young man named James Johnstone, eighteen years of age, son of Mr Christopher Johnstone, and in the employ of Mr D. G. Wright, of Surrey Hills, went out shepherding, and not returning in.the evening a search party was sect cut and found bis horse, about four miles from the homestead. Johnstone was subsequently found dead near the horse. No cause can be asisgned for the fatality, unless the horse stumbled and threw deceased, who was a steady young ma n and conversant with the country. There is no suspicion of foul play.
DEATH OP A JOCKEY.
By Telegraph —Press Association. BULLS, January 4. Frederick Whitehouae, who was injured by a fall off Arcadia in the Hack Hurdles at Rangitikei races yesterday, died this morning. Deceased had been riding for a number of years, and was a well-known hurdle and steeplechase jockey. During his career he had received numerous falls, some of them severe enough to sicken anyone of the game. He leaves a wife, but no family. He resided at Woodville.
