Southland commenced to-day, Southland made a poor stand in the first innings, being disposed of for 71, Poole '-22, and Wesney 21 being the only Batsmen to reach double figures. Fo' Otago Macartney took five wickets for 16 runs, Calliway 3 fjr 37, and Cummings 1 for 12 When play ceased Otago had lost 8 wickets fjr 521, Siedebtrg 162, Macartney 118. Heddlestone 86, Rutherford 50, and Wilson 3, being the chief cout.ibiuti rs. The Southland bowling was very weak. Otago scored at a lemailcubly rapid rate. •
WELINGTON v. CANTERBURY
By Telegraph— Press A'Ssciation. WELLINGTON, January 2. The match between Canterbury and Wellington started to-day in excellent weather. The visitors batted first, and compiled 122, W. Carlton 30, T. Carlton. 24, Patrick 19, Crawshaw 10, and Watson 10 not out. Krice captured 5 wickets for 37, Hickey 4 for 50. Wellington lost 6 wickets for 88 runs, Midlane 31, Hawthorne 18, Hickson 13.
The following will represent the Wairarapa Age team in a match against the " Wairarapa Daily Times" team on the Park Oval on Saturday next:—N. Madsen, F. Madsen, B. Iveson, S. Cresswell, W. Hounslow, A. E. Green, J. King, D. Nicholson, R. Scrivener, L. A. Harris, P. Bennett. The match will commence at 3 o'clock sharp. '
In view of the represenative match, Wairarapa v. Hawke's Bay, which takes place at Napier on 22nd and 4tn, January, the following players are requested to go into practice:—Smart, Maunsell. F. Beechey, Sievers, Prow, A. Hoar, Styles, Moss, Waugh, Morehouse, Esson, Redmond, Logan, Perry, Waters, Hooper, Mackellar. Those that are unable to make the trip are requested to let the selectors know as soon as possible.
