MEETING OF CREDITORS.
ESTATE OF JOHN LEAHY, The first meeting of creditors in the bankrupt estate of John Alfred Leahy, cabman, Masterton, was held at the Courthouse. Masterton, yesterday. Mr W. B. Chennells, D.0.A., presided. The following creditors were present:—Messrs A. J. Percy, J. D. Cruickshank, H. Scott, jnr., C. Graham and J. C Ewington. Mr C. A. Pownall appeared for bankrupt, and Mr D. K. Logan represented Messrs J. Graham and Co., and J. D. Cruickahank and Co. The written statement of bankrupt was to the effect that he was adjudicated bankrupt on the petition of his creditors. He had no desire to go bankrupt, and considered that the estate would more than pay his debts. The statement showed:—Unsecured creditors, £268 1s; secured creditors, £1,000; estimated value of securities, £2,250 surplus from securitites, £1,250; total debts, £263 19s; estimated suiplus, £986 Is. The secured creditors are -Public Trust, Wellington, amount of debt, £700; estimated value of security, £750. In his cross examination by the D.0.A., bankrupt stated that he commenced business on July Bth, 1908. The business did not pay after the first six months. He kept no books, with the exception of a rough book, which did not show his daily takings. It was eventually decided to realise on the plant of cabs, brake and harness, and to see what could be done with bankrupt's interest in his mother's estate.
