PAHIATUA NEWS.

From Our Resident Reporter. Wednesday. On Ctiristmas morning several passengers from Napier and some from as far North as Gisburne had to wait at Woodville ±rom the time the "'midnight" train which arrived at that place at 3 a.m. unci! the only WaKf>nsp» train le&aLL2£U** m - tefore they could travel to their destination in various parts of the WaWapa. Others coming from Palmerston by the early train were informed that a train would leave lor the Wairarapa about 8.30 a.m., hut found to their dismay that they also hacl to wait until 12. p.m. Luckily the refreshment room proprietors at the railway station had the room open, and did good business. It was doubtless annoying to the travellers from Uisborne to find they could not reach their destination as, anticipated in time for Christmas dinner. The usual Mart Saturday sale will again be held this week on the same day as last, viz., Fnday, at 1 p.m. Mr George Wells had the misfortune to badly cut.bis foot with an axe yesterday, necessitating medical attention, and also causing him to lay up for a few'days. A aheepfarmer of , this district toflay showed me the account of the sales of two pelts and one calf skin, Which were railed to Napier. The Skins realised 2s 3d, while the railage from Pahiatua to Napier amounted to Is 6d. leaving a credit balance of 9d. Our railways should soon be paying well. The social in the Konini Hall, which hitherto has been held annually on New Year's Night, will this year be held on Monday evening, January 3rd. The secretaries, Misses K. Bissett and F. Hirst, have all arrangements well in hand, and all proceeds over expenses are to be handed over to the Hall Committee. Haymaking is just upon being completed in this district, and harvesting has commenced. Several

line crops of oats are to be seen on the Mangahao flats. Crops in general in thpt locality are looking particularly well, the recent rains freshening up the root crops wonderfully. TENNIS.
