SHOCKING ACCIDENT.

Received December 29, 10.20 a.m. MELBOURNE, December 29. Mrs Hooper, a resident of Eednalla, was ironing clothing with a patent iron heated by methylated spirits, and thinking the spirits had burnt out, proceeded to replenish the iron, when a great sheet of flame shot out, igniting the clothing. Her three children were standing by. A boy of two and a half vears died almout at once, a girl of eight years was dreadfully burnt and succumbed three hours later, whilst a girl of four was severely burnt, but hope 3of her recovery are entertained. The mother, although standing over the iron, when the spirits ignited, escaped uninjured.
