CARTERTON NEWS.
From Our Resident Reporter. Wednesday. A special meeting of the Fiendly Societies' Council was held last evening to consider an application for a grant from the fund in the hands of the Council for a sick brother. After considering the question it was decided to grant £5. Bm. C. Moore was appointed a trustee of the Benevolent Fund in place of Bro. Molloy, who ha 3 left the district. A meeting of the Borough Council was held last evening, His Worship the Mayor (Mr A. Armstrong) presiding. An auctioneer's license was granted to Mr G. A. Fairbrother. Dr. Smyth reported a case of diphtheria within the Borough. It was decided to have the path on Carrington Park weeded. The building inspector reported having issued permits to erect buildings to the extent of £240. The report of the sanitary inspector disclosed that the septic tank was working well. The gas committee's report showed that 234,00 C feet had been manufactured during the month. Mr and Mrs H. Nicholson, of Otaki, are at present on a visit to Carterton. Messrs H. T. Jones and Son, of Wanganui, have, presented a silvermounted morocco wallet to the Carterton Gun Club for competition.
