PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). j Monday. A social was held this evening, in the Olympic Theatre, when the members of the Fire Brigade presented Captain McAlister, who is leaving Pahiatua, with a solid silver tea service suitably inscribed. T«'ne Mayor, Mr D. Crewe, in making the presentation, referred to Mr McAlister's many good qualities as a citisan, and also to the valuable services he had rendered to the town during his two years' term as captain of the Fire Brigade. The fourth annual meeting of the Stai'r-Bowkett Building Society was held this evening, the Mayor, Mr DCrevve, presiding. The annual report and balance sheet were read, showing the Society to be in a good financial position. The Directors for the ensuing year were elected as follow: — Messrs D. Crewe (chairman), T. Hewat, T. Manifold, G. Harold Smith, J. Hughes and Father McKenna. Mr W. I. Husband was elected secretary and treasurer, ana Messrs G. C. Miller and J. G. Swainson auditors. The fifteenth appropriation of £3OO fell to Mrs Scewart, of Konini. A young married man named D. Brown died at the hospital to-day. He was well known in Pahiatua, where he has resided some time. There are fifty-three suppliers to the Nireaha cneese factory.
