Estimates of the fruit crop in the season now begun, in 'various parts of New Zealand, are thus summarised by the director of orchards, etc., Mr T. W. Apricots (Thames), good. , Hawke's Bay and Wellington East districts. —Apples, good. Pears, medium. Early peaches, light; later varieties peaches, fair to good. English plums, fair; Japanese plums, very good. Apricots, medium. Small fruits, good. Taranaki and Wellington West Plums, light. Apples, fair; Washington apples, good. Early peaches, few; other peaches, fair. Peara, medium, Nelson. —All stone fruit, light." Apples and pears, very heavy. Raspberries, good. Marlborough. —• Apples, good.' Pears, good average. European plump, medium; Japanese plums, fair. Peaches, good. Apricots, medium to an enire failure. Cherries, fair average. Bush fruits (currants and gooseberries), good. Note.—The in the early spring is probably responsible for the failure of the apricots. Westland and Canterbury: Peaches, apricots, plums and cherries, light. Apples, good. Pears, medium. Otagn and Southland. —Peaches, very good. Apricots (with exception of few orchards in Central Otago cut by frost), very good. Plums, heavy. Apples and pears, good. Cherries and strawberries, very good.
