MILK PRODUCTION.

SOME GRATIFYING FIGURES.

Evidence ol the prolific nature of the present season, so far as miik production is concerned, is being doily afforded by the returns of dairy companies. Here are two striking instances: -- During the month of November the North Taranaki Co-operative Dairy Company paid its suppliers £1,124 16s Id, against £707 14s 6d for the milk of November, 1908, an increase of £417 Is 7d, an easy record. The amount of milk received was 743,4871b, which is very much in advance of anything the company has yet handled for a month. This gave 28,3081b of butter fat, against 17,9981b tor the corresponding month ol iast year, an increase of 10,3091b. From this, 32,6521b of commercial butter was made, ari increase of 12,7781b, against last year's 19,8761b. It required 22.71b of milk to produce one pound of commercial butter, and 25.51b of miik for each pound of butter fat. The company, which has had a hard row to hoe for some ten years, ia now on the high road to success, owing to the fact that during the past two years it has been en • abled to pay practically as much to suppliers as surrounding concerns. Prior to that time, from 7d to 8d was the best price suppliers received, but las! year 10 2-3 d was paid, besides which good provision for depreciation as made. ""The Waitara-Taranaki Dairy Company is also showing a big increase. For November, 1909, the amount of miliC received was 648,3321b, as against 616,9721b for November, 1908, an increase of 31,8601b. The butter fat produced amounted to 24,9481b, against 23,9441b. and the butter made totalled 28,8951b as against 26,7591b., an increase of 2,1001b, or nearly a ton of butter. I took 2.41b of milk to make a pound of Dutter. Suppliers received £987 9s Id for milk, at 9£d per lb of butter fat, against £999 13s 5d for November, 1908, at lOd per ib. A combined churn has been and during the month it has been working has given every satisfaction.
